February 9, 2021: My first travel since the pandemic hit in early 2020, here's the taxi fare and distance chart at Goa Dabolim Airport.
Several changes have happened over the past few years, including the appearance of a private taxi operator. According to reports, the mobile app based taxi reservation service does not work.

October 2018: The taxi fare chart at Goa's Dabolim Airport is shown below. The taxi counter is located inside the arrival terminal just after you step out of the arrival hall. Once you state your destination, the staff will hand over a piece of paper with the taxi number, destination and fare written on it. Please pay the driver after you reach.

July 2016: The taxi fares at Goa Dabolim airport have changed after about 5 years. The rate works out to about Rs 27 per km for an air-con car and about Rs 25 per km for a non-air-con car. Taxis are available 24 hours. You will have to pay 35% extra between 11 PM and 5 AM.

July 2014: The pre-paid taxi counter is located in the new airport terminal at Dabolim. Amazingly, the taxi fares from Dabolim airport have not changed since December 2011, when this post was first written.

December 2013: The pre-paid taxi counter and fare chart is located just outside the current arrival hall, before the exit gate. The new terminal is not functional yet (as of last week of December 2013).

The published fare is per taxi.
DeleteDriver with one passenger in front, and you can squeeze in up to three small to mid sized passengers at the back.
Not sure if there are additional charges for big and/or many bags, we usually travel with small strolleys and back packs.

There are few counters inside.
Do not go there.
Look for the pre paid counter 20 meters before the gate.
Once you pay, the driver will take you to the parking area.
MOST visitors are package tourists.
The pre paid taxi line is short.
The staff are helpful.

1. Is there a safe cloak/luggage room in the airport where we can drop our luggage for 4-5 hours. If yes what are the charges ?
2. Are there any places nearby airport for sight seeing maybe Vasco da game ? What's interesting to see ?

Since you are traveling with a child, you could request the hotel for early check-in, or for a temporary room. The current terminal does not have a luggage deposit facility. The area around the airport, including Vasco, which you mentioned, are industrial and port areas, not much fun!
ReplyDeleteIt may take you 45 to 60 minutes to reach Varca from the airport. Hotels often allow you to use the gym and pool areas until rooms are available (which may extend beyond 12 noon depending on occupancy and number of rooms to be cleaned).
The area around the River Sal estuary (10 km south of Varca) is very pretty. I have a few pictures here, from our trip in Dec 2012:

The new fare for a air-conditioned taxi should be about Rs 1300 for 40 km. About Rs 1800 for a SUV for 40 km.

ReplyDeleteSince it is the rainy season, you will be better off heading to Calangute and Baga.
Lots of hotels will be available. Lots of restaurants will be open there.
Try Chalston Resort on Calangute Beach or Villa Goesa on Baga Besach or equivalent in the area.

We are 4 couples travelling to goa for 5 days. We are spending 3 days at Vagator beach(North goa) and planning to spend 2 days at south goa. Can you please help us finding a good budget report with good location(near to any beautiful beach). Our budget is around 2000-3000 per night.
I have not stayed in Vagator. I have stayed in Anjuna many times, at Hotel Villa Anjuna, and at Chalston Resort in Calangute, as recently as last week. In South Goa, you can try Pristine Resort in Arossim (stayed there several times) or Silver Sands in Colva (not stayed there, been past it). Enjoy!

Option 1: Bus from Baga to Panaji, then to Madgaon, then to Colva. The trip may take you close to 3 hours. Buses leave when they fill up. The tickets may cost about Rs 50 total.
DeleteOption 2: Taxi may cost you around Rs 1000, since the driver may have to return empty. Time about 1 hour.
Colva Beach is too, too crowded and can get dirty with the litter. Walk 500 to 1000 metres north or south and you should find beach shacks as the beach gets far less busier. If you walk away from the beach towards Colva town, you will find several restaurants.

Arriving in Goa on 14th Sept afternoon for a week's stay at Colva. Should I take a pre paid taxi to hotel or hire a taxi for the day and after dropping luggage at hotel use rest of the day sight seeing? How is the Colva beach at this time of the year?
ReplyDeleteTake a pre-paid taxi to your hotel. Once you reach, decide where you wish to go, by bus or auto or local taxi. Colva tends to attract visitors all around the year (like Baga and Calangute). Beaches north and south of Colva would be deserted till around mid-Oct (when the beach shacks reopen).

ReplyDeleteAirport taxis seem like they could be very useful. Not everyone wants to leave their car in an airport parking lot. Other people can't always find a ride to the airport. It seems like it would be nice to call on an airport taxi for a ride to or from the airport.

Where to go: North Goa beaches, cliffs like in Anjuna and Vagator; Panaji; UNESCO Heritage sites at Old Goa; If you have time, then South Goa beaches.
Beach shacks open up mid-October, so until then recommended to stick to Anjuna, Baga and Calangute.
